You use your aluminum trailer for hauling all of your most precious cargo, but over time, it’s going to get pretty dirty. Between sand, mud, dirt, and rain, your trailer may be looking pretty dirty after a few months of hauling, but you can easily wash it off and get it clean again, inside and out! Here are some tips on how to keep your aluminum trailer clean so it’s nice looking and easier to maintain.

Tidy Up Daily

Doing a little bit of cleaning every day will help to keep grime from building up, particularly inside your trailer. Sweep out the interior after each use and hose it out if you’ve been carrying muddy or dirty items.

Use a Power Washer

When it’s time to do more thorough cleaning, you can use a power washer to get off mud, dirt, and other debris quickly and easily. A hose and a gentle cleaner like dish soap will also work. Painted trailers can handle car-wash soap or something stronger, but unpainted trailers need to be cleaned more gently. Always rinse your trailer and let it dry thoroughly before you store it.

Remove Oxidation

One major issue that aluminum trailer owners need to deal with is oxidation. An acid bath can remove that oxidation and get your trailer looking new again, but it’s best if this process is performed by a professional truck-washing service, since the acids used are very caustic. If you want to attempt to remove oxidation at home, you can try a gentler citrus cleaner.
