To transport your cows, horses, or llamas, you need a livestock trailer. These trailers are excellent for anyone who needs to transport animals for any number of reasons. But it’s important to do what you can to keep your livestock safe while you transport them. Here are our tips to protect your beloved animals en route to your destination.

Consider the Features

The proper features will ensure that your animals are safe while you’re on the road. The trailer needs to be spacious enough to give all your animals room, and it must have plenty of ventilation to provide fresh air. A non-slip floor will keep your animals on their feet. The loading ramp also needs to be large enough to accommodate your animals, with a gentle slope that they can easily walk up and down.

Keep Your Trailer Maintained

A poorly kept trailer is one that could let you down on the highway. You need to keep your livestock trailer clean and in good condition. Sweep and hose down the floors after every trip and ensure that there are no signs of rust or corrosion. Inspect the hitch and check that it functions properly. Check your signals, lights, and brakes to make sure they work, too.

Use the Right Towing Vehicle

It’s important that your towing vehicle is of sufficient size and strength to haul your trailer and animals around. You’ll need to check the vehicle’s Gross Combined Vehicle Weight (GCVW) to ensure that it can handle the weight of both your trailer and all of your animals.
